The Fed's latest economic projections show one rate hike in 2026, but the outlook is complicated by the absence of Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's projection. Among 18 officials, nine expect the federal funds rate to be higher than the current range of 3.5% to 3.75% by end-2026. However, one participant's data appears missing; Warsh confirmed at the press conference that he indeed did not provide any personal projections. The median rate projection now shows the federal funds rate reaching 3.8% by end-2026. This is higher than the 3.4% in the Fed's March Summary of Economic Projections (SEP) and 0.25 percentage points above the current target range. ## Warsh pushes for Fed communication changes Newly installed Fed Chair Warsh has signaled a desire to overhaul the central bank's communication strategy. He believes officials may have provided too much forward guidance and devoted excessive effort to planning the future monetary policy path. At the same time, the Fed's policy statement underwent a more extensive rewrite than usual.
